The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. (Romans 8:16-17)
Have you ever rented a house at the beach or a cabin in the mountains? It’s wonderful to enter that home and feel like you’ve got the place all to yourself. You can stretch out on the couch and rock on the porch any time, day or night. Bliss! But always in the back of your mind, you remember that this place isn’t really yours. You use a coaster whether you want to or not, because it’s not your coffee table. Then there’s the curiosity that’s killing you from that closet you’re locked out of – the owners’ closet. You’re free to enjoy, but the home is not your own.
Now think about heaven. We’re heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ. We don’t deserve to set foot on the streets of gold; we’re not even worthy to be the street sweepers! Yet not only do we get to be in heaven, but we’ll be granted some sense of ownership because God has called us His heirs. The heavenly mansion awaiting you? Coasters optional. Owner’s privilege.
What are YOU thankful for during this season of gratitude? Share it! We want to know. Happy Thanksgiving!
